Job Description:
The Division of Infectious Diseases at the Warren Alpert Medical
School of Brown University in Providence, RI is seeking a
physician-investigator at the Assistant Professor level. The
successful applicant is expected to be committed to scholarly
participation in the Infectious Diseases research programs of The
Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and the affiliated
academic hospitals (Rhode Island Hospital, The Miriam Hospital).
Research experience and a publication record in infectious diseases
is required. It is preferred that the candidate has a track record
of research funding and is a competitive candidate for an NIH
career development (or equivalent) award. Preference will be given
to applicants with a funded or favorably scored career development
award application. In addition, the candidate should demonstrate
excellence in patient care and teaching. Applicants must be board
certified or eligible in infectious diseases, and demonstrate a
commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in their research
program and academic environment.The successful candidate will be
expected to establish an independent infectious diseases research
program, with a minimum of 50 % of their time devoted to research
activities. Protected time for research is guaranteed for two years
while seeking NIH funding. The successful candidate will be
expected to participate in the clinical and teaching activities of
the Division of Infectious Disease at Rhode Island Hospital and The
Miriam Hospital, which includes teaching Infectious Diseases
fellows, medicine residents, and medical students.The Division of
Infectious Diseases at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown
University and affiliated academic hospitals has 30 full-time
faculty members and a robust research portfolio with approximately
$30 million of external research funding annually. There are strong
research collaborations with the Brown School of Public Health and
other academic institutions in the region, and the Division is the
home of the Providence/Boston Center for AIDS Research and the
Center of Biomedical Research Excellence on Opioids and Overdose.
Areas of research excellence include (but are not limited to) HIV
clinical research (treatment, retention in care, and prevention),
infections among substance users and other vulnerable populations,
global infectious diseases, infectious diseases clinical trials,
antimicrobial resistance, infection prevention, and tick-borne
